Randle McMurphy

Randle McMurphy is an Irish-American patient found guilty of and gambling and statutory rape. He is a Korean War veteran who was dishonorably discharged for insubordination. His sentence was meant to be a fairly short prison work farm term, but has been transferred to our mental institution for his unstable behavior. 

Chief Bromden

Chief Bromden is the son of the chief of the Columbia Indians, Chief Tee Ah Millatoonaand, and a white woman, Mary Louise Bromden. He suffers from paranoia and hallucinations which has resulted in him receiving the institution's top-of-the-line electroshock treatments. Our oldest patient, Chief has been with us  for ten years, longer than any other patient in the ward. 

Billy Bibbit

A nervous and shy patient, Billy Bibbit is a thirty-one-year-old patient who mostly keeps to himself. In addition, he has a bad stutter and has retained his virginity until thirty years of age, Admitted to the institution my his own mother, a close friend of Nurse Ratched, Billy has become the most repressed member of the group. 

Dale Harding

Dale Harding is one of the few, if not only, college-educated patient in the institution.  Harding is a married homosexual who has chosen to hide within the hospital's safe walls voluntarily. This is due to difficulty of dealing with the  social prejudice against homosexuals. He is the hospital's president of the Patients’ Council. Harding becomes close to most of our patients including our newest guest, Randle McMurphy. understand the realities of the hospital.

Charles Cheswick

Charles Cheswick is one of our many loud-mouthed patient. However, he is the only one who dares to demand changes to occur in the ward. But thanks to our wonderful staff, he does nothing to stand up against our standards and policies other than complain about them.
